or, What You Will (part three of the Gurdjieff Quartet)
vibraphone and timpani soloists with six multiple percussion
written for and first performed by:
The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble
Ken Hosley- conductor with Louis Otto and Joseph Passaro
reference: Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night"
65 pages (11"x17") duration ca. 14'The timpani and the vibraphone act as heads of their timbral classes then layered by the six multiple percussion with pitched drums, relative-pitched drums and pitched metals, relative-pitched metals. These two distinct timbres symbolize the complex interplay of the masculine and feminine principals as examined in the Shakespeare. I'm pleased that although this score is at times dense the contrapuntal lines are always discernible. Counterpoint in music is important because it helps us realize that only the body is subject to physical laws.
