This work was written for Martin Kluger, then lead percussionist with the Springfield Symphony (Mass.) Jung defines the psychological self as a transcendental concept expressing the totality of conscious and unconscious contents. The three instrumental choirs of winds, percussion, and strings are here represented in pairs exhibiting light and dark qualities meant to give the listeners something to think about.
